COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A confirmed tornado was reported northeast of Colorado Springs Friday afternoon.
The tornado briefly touched down between the town of Falcon and Peyton, about two miles north of Meadow Lake Airport, according to the National Weather Service. There are no reports of damage or injuries at this time.
The tornado is part of a strong thunderstorm system in the area moving east at 20 mph. Half-inch hail and winds over 30 mph will be possible with this storm, according to an NWS statement.
The El Paso County twister comes a week after a tornado hit near Eaton in Weld County, the first tornado of the season and a rare occurrence in March for Colorado.
First Alert Weather Chief Meteorologist Mike Nelson said last week that while tornadoes can happen in March, it's very rare to see them this early in the year.
