DENVER – Meet the Denver Zoo’s newest, youngest residents: Three 9-month-old Komodo dragons.

The dragons, two males named Ryu and Bai and a female named Saphira, made their public debut at the zoo on Friday. They came to Denver from the Fort Worth Zoo in April as part of a coordinated species survival plan.

The lizards are currently about 18-inches long and weigh about 2 pounds but by the time they reach adulthood, they could be as large as 9 feet long and 100 pounds.

The young lizards are on display in the zoo’s Tropical Discovery exhibit, along with the zoo’s other adult Komodo dragons, 18-year-old Raja and 8-year-old Kristika.
