DENVER — Denver police were investigating two shootings that left three people injured in the LoDo area early Friday.

The first shooting was outside the Dorchester Social near 15th and Market streets shortly after 2 a.m.

Two people were wounded and one person, Mikal Newton, 18, was later arrested on a charge of aggravated assault.

The victims were stable, according to a tweet from the Denver Police Department.

Around 2:30 a.m., a man was found shot in his shoulder near 19th and Market streets.

No arrests have been made in the second shooting.

"The two shootings do not appear to be related in any way," Doug Schepman, a Denver Police Department spokesperson said.

This area has a history of deadly shootings and violence. In March one person was killed and four others wounded in a shooting at 15th and Market Streets.

In October 2018 the Denver Police department implemented new security measures aimed at reducingviolence on Market Street.

They began using spotlights to add more lighting in hopes of deterring crime.

More officers were brought in to patrol the street as as the bars closed and parking meters were bagged to keep the curbs open and prevent conflicts with drivers trying to leave the bars.
