HENDERSON, Colo. -- It isn’t easy flipping a tractor tire once or twice, let alone across a back yard all day long.
But, that’s what Laura Tatham did Sunday to help raise money for three friends who were involved in a fatal car crash in New Mexico nearly two weeks ago.
“This hit home. This is the first time in the four years that our organization has been around that we’ve had any kind of death with a race or any type of accident,” said David Tatham, captain of the Colorado Obstacle Racers.
Corinna Vaden, 49, Kym Butcher and Elizabeth Rotter were all driving to a Spartan Race in Arizona when authorities in New Mexico said they were rear-ended by a teen driver who was intoxicated at three times the legal limit.
Vaden was killed in the crash.
Butcher and Rotter were both seriously injured and are still recovering in the hospital, Tatham said.
Friends of the three set a goal of raising $60,000 for them and their families.
Within a week, they’ve raised $30,000.
Fundraisers will continue and wukk include a concert, raffle and virtual run.
