THORNTON, Colo.-- There is backlash in Thornton over a new proposed Top Golf location near the intersection of I-25 and 136th Avenue.

Top Golf already has one location in Centennial.

The company wants to builds its second Colorado location in Thornton near the Rolling Hills neighborhood, but homeowners say it's not welcome.

"The view was very important to me and now it's going to be taken away," said homeowner Joe Martinez.

"The noise is probably our primary concern as a community," said homeowner Tami Pippert.

Top Golf wants to the turn the land directly behind their homes into a 64,000 square foot golfer's paradise, equipped with more than 100 hitting bays, full bar, music and lights.

"To me it's like having Mile High Stadium in your backyard with all the lights," said Martinez.

Martinez has lived in the community for more than 17 years, he also said they're also concerned about how late it will stay open.

"Open till 2 o'clock in the morning," he said. "They have alcohol, they have music."

"I'm worried actually, I have two small girls and I went to the Centennial location -- it's really readily apparent," said Pippert.

Todd Barnes a spokesperson with the City of Thornton said they have held several public meetings and as a result of resident feedback, Top Golf has agreed to make some changes to the lighting and will also abide by city sound ordinances.

"They've committed to doing some directive lighting that does not have spill -- it's simply directed on their facility," said Barnes. "We understand residents, anybody backing up to an area like that might have concerns and we expect to listen to those concerns and city council will make a decision at that time."

Neighbors said they hope the city will consider moving the Top Golf to another location in Thornton.

"It's zoned exactly for a facility like that, nothing is being changed, they meet all the requirements, having a golf facility - right next to a golf course is a fairly decent match," said Barnes.

City Council will hold a public hearing on August 23 before voting on the proposal.

Top Golf provided Denver7 with the following statement:

In general, Topgolf couldn’t be successful without the support of the local community. We have opened nearly thirty venues to date and we are committed to being a great community partner. We really focus on providing an excellent Guest experience and minimizing distractions to do the same for the community as well.
