ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. – A Thornton Chihuahua that was to be euthanized after being bitten by a pack of coyotes will get a second chance after all.
A spokesman for Adams County told Denver7 Monday that the county’s Animal Control had found a new home for the dog. It had been set to be euthanized because of its exposure to rabies, despite protests from the community and county workers themselves.
State protocol requires the animal be euthanized or put in a 120-day quarantine.
The dog remains quarantined, but its new family will sign its adoption papers this week. Afterward, the dog will be put in a crate and taken to a private veterinarian that has agreed to take care of the dog until it can be released to the family.
