DENVER — The years-overdue G Line commuter rail line officially opens on Friday, April 26 but don’t expect to take the train to work in the morning.
The train won’t actually be taking passengers until 10 a.m. Friday.
The Regional Transportation District will celebrate the opening of the G Line with an hour-long grand opening ceremony at the Ward Road station in Wheat Ridge starting at 9 a.m.
There also will be special events at stations along the 11.2-mile G Line throughout the day on Saturday.
Here are some important things to know about metro Denver’s newest commuter rail line:
Free rides: All rides on the G Line will be free on Friday and rides on all rail lines will be free on Saturday, April 27. Regular service begins on Sunday, April 28.
Route: The G Line begins at Union Station in Denver and has a total of eight stops, ending at Ward Road in Wheat Ridge. Stops along the way include Pecos Junction, Clear Creek and Federal, 60th and Sheridan and Olde Town Arvada.
Fare: You can ride the G Line by paying a local fare of $3.00 each way.
Frequency: The rail line will operate between 4 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. with 15-minute frequency during peak hours and 30-minute frequency during other periods.
Parking: RTD says it has 2,300 parking spaces available at stations along the G Line. Parking is free for the first 24 hours if your vehicle is registered in the RTD service area. After that, it’s $2.00 per day. Parking is $4.00 per day for vehicles that are not registered in RTD’s service area.
