DENVER -- We all love a great deal, especially this time of year.
According to the American Farm Bureau Federation, on average, Americans will spend $50.11 on Thanksgiving dinner for 10 people.
So, Denver7 went out with uGrocery co-founder Eva Fry to see if we could get a Thanksgiving Day meal for 10 for under $50.
Fry created a meal centered around a 15-pound turkey which she found on-sale for $.65 cents a pound at Safeway. The turkey: $9.75 total.
She also got celery, carrots, poultry spices, oranges, sweet potatoes, and potatoes.
“A huge 10 pound bag (of potatoes) for just $.99 cents,” said Fry.
We found a dozen Lucerne eggs for $.99 cents and stuffing for about $2. We found green beans for $.50 a can, so we bought four.
And what Thanksgiving meal would be complete without pie. We found Sara Lee frozen buys at two for $6. We got apple and pumpkin.
At checkout, we came in well-under budget. Our total: $41.03.
“You can do it,” said Fry. “You just have to be a savvy shopper.”
