AURORA, Colo. — A triple shooting in Aurora early Sunday morning left a 15-year-old girl dead and two others wounded in a fire station parking lot near Hoffman Park. No arrests have been made.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting near the park and Aurora Fire Rescue Station 2, located in the 12000 block of East Hoffman Boulevard, around 12:30 a.m.
"My wife heard two different gunshots. Two different guns she heard. So I didn't know what it was. I thought it was fireworks, to be honest, because you know how loud they are," said Juan Newson, a witness.
Police said firefighters provided medical care to the 15-year-old girl and a 20-year-old woman before the two were transported to a local hospital, where the girl died.
The Arapahoe County Coroner's Office identified the victim as K'Tahna Jordin Smith. She died of gunshot wound injuries and her death is classified as a homicide.
The 20-year-old woman has serious injuries but is expected to survive, police said.
"She's at the hospital. She is recovering. She's in her room now. At first, I thought that we lost her," said Paulette Gray, the woman's aunt. "She got shot in her abdomen, and we want to get to the bottom of this and see who did this for sure."
APD said on Sunday morning, they discovered a third victim, who sustained a graze wound in the shooting.
Police said the third victim, a 15-year-old girl, declined medical attention.
Authorities have not identified a suspect, and the incident remains under investigation, though detectives believe it was isolated.
Investigators believe several witnesses captured the shooting on their cellphones. Police are asking those witnesses to come forward.
