LAKEWOOD, Colo. — A teenage girl died after she was hit by a car while crossing a street with a friend in Lakewood on Sunday.
Around 6:22 p.m. on Sunday, police with the Lakewood Police Department responded to a report of a crash at S. Wadsworth Boulevard and W. Virginia Avenue.
Police said a teenage girl was crossing S. Wadsworth Boulevard in or near the crosswalk on the south side of the intersection when she was hit by a car driving south on that boulevard.
Multiple people who were nearby and saw the crash stopped to help the girl, but she died at the scene, police said.
Lakewood Police Department Public Information Officer Rob Albrets said a group of teens were hanging out at the shopping center near Belmar mall when the teen and a friend crossed S. Wadsworth Boulevard to meet up with friends on the other side of the street.
The driver stopped and is cooperating with police. Police said they do not suspect drugs or alcohol is involved.
This is an ongoing investigation. Police are working to determine who had the right of way at the time of the crash. The driver hadn’t been cited or arrested as of Sunday evening.
