DENVER — Denver School Board Director Tay Anderson collapsed at a Target after suffering severe chest pains, his family tweeted Monday.

The tweet from Anderson's account did not provide much details, but they said the 22-year-old is in “stable” condition and undergoing testing.

His family thanked the staff at Target and paramedics for assisting Anderson.

In a statement released Tuesday morning, Anderson said he wanted to thank the frontline workers who helped him and his family.

"I am feeling better and I will be resting today with my family, but I want to take the time to highlight the importance of maintaining your mental, physical, and emotional health," the statement reads. "This has been an incredibly difficult year for so many and while it's been my greatest honor to fight alongside the families and communities of Denver as we've navigated through this pandemic, in that work it can be easy to neglect your own self care. Unfortunately, I learned the hard way the consequences of that neglect."

Anderson is an outspoken elected member of the Denver School Board, and youngest to ever have run for the position. He has led Black Lives Matter rallies and other protests across the state.
