A suspected impaired driver, with a child in her car, hit a police car, with a suspect inside, early Wednesday morning.
Officers with the Mountain View Police Department were on Sheridan Blvd., near 43rd Avenue, at 1:19 a.m. checking on a man who had been seen stumbling in the roadway.
Police said the man was put in the back of a patrol vehicle, so he could be transported to a detox facility.
However, about 20 minutes later, while officers were picking up the man's belongings, a 2013 Ford Escape hit the rear of the patrol vehicle.
"The patrol vehicle was pushed onto the sidewalk approximately 30 feet south of the impact," Mountain View police said.
The 34-year-old driver of the Escape and her 7-year-old female passenger were taken to the hospital, along with the detainee who was in the patrol vehicle. The detainee was treated and released. Police said they don't know the extent of the injuries to the woman and child.
"The officers were able to take evasive action on foot and avoided the collision without any injury," police said.
Investigators said alcohol and drugs are suspected as factors in the cause of the collision.
