AURORA, Colo. — Police in Aurora are investigating a shooting involving an officer at a motel Tuesday night.

Police learned that an armed and dangerous fugitive wanted for homicide was staying at the Wolf's Motor Inn, located at 15691 E. Colfax Ave., according to Lt. Chris Amsler with the Aurora Police Department. The APD SWAT Team also responded with police.

For several hours, crisis negotiators attempted to get the suspect to surrender peacefully, but he refused to leave his room, Amsler said. Authorities also learned that a woman was in the suspect's room.

At 10:04 p.m., police heard a gunshot from the room. SWAT officers forced entry "and more shots were fired and the suspect was struck," Amsler said.

The suspect was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening. Two SWAT Officers had minor injuries. The woman was not hurt, according to Matthew Longshore, public information officer with APD.

The Critical Incident Response Team (CIRT) for the 17th Judicial District responded and will investigate this police shooting.
