MONUMENT, Colo. — Investigators say a suspect who barricaded himself inside a home in Monument was killed in a shooting with police.

Monument police were called to Second Street and Beacon Lite around 3 p.m. Sunday after receiving several reports of gunshots.

They arrived and found several vehicles had been hit, and the suspect shut himself inside a residence.

Police requested help from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, and while they were trying to get in contact with the suspect shots were fired.

Colorado Springs Police are investigating the officer-involved shooting.

Investigators say El Paso County officers fired at the suspect, and at some point during the incident three law enforcement vehicles were also hit.

No one else was injured.

Several streets in downtown Monument are closed, including 2nd Street, and are expected to remain closed for most of the night.

Officers say crime scenes take some time to process, ask those who live nearby to be patient.

They also say it's too early to be certain what kind of weapon, if any, the suspect had.

The suspect's name has not yet been released.

More information is expected to be released on Monday.
