HAYDEN, Colo. – A 36-year-old man who was taken to a hospital after getting injured in a police chase near the Town of Hayden on Wednesday has been identified.
Anthony David Quinn, 36, of Oak Creek, was taken to the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora following the chase for treatment of his injuries. He later died at the hospital, according to both the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the Colorado State Patrol.
The incident began when the Quinn failed to stop for a traffic infraction in Craig. The suspect took off, but a pursuit was not initiated by the Craig Police Department, according to a news release from the Colorado Bureau of Investigations.
Soon after, Quinn, driving a late model Honda at a high rate of speed, passed a CSP sergeant driving on Highway 40 in Hayden, and a pursuit was initiated, CBI said.
After about two miles, the sergeant initiated a tactical vehicle intervention maneuver to end the pursuit, which caused the suspect vehicle to hit an embankment, ejecting Quinn, according to the CBI.
Per standard CSP policy and procedure, the sergeant has been placed on administrative leave.
The 14th Judicial District Critical Incident Team (CIT) is investigating the incident after a request from the Colorado State Patrol.
