Survey says: Dating isn't any easier in the digital age

Posted

DENVER – Technology plays an increasingly important role in people’s lives, but it doesn’t seem to be making it any easier to find love.

That’s according to a survey from online dating site Match.com.

For the seventh year running, Match conducted a survey of more than 5,500 single people to get some insight into what it’s like to be in the dating pool today.

Here are some of the more interesting findings:

  • Millennials are…
    • 22 percent more likely to think that technology has made finding love more difficult (but they’re 57 percent more likely to have a profile on a dating app)
    • 48 percent more likely to have slept with someone before going on a first date
    • 177 percent more likely to feel “overwhelming” pressure to get married
  • The number one turn-on for men? Female entrepreneurs
  • Tech-related turn-offs: Constantly being on social media, complaining openly on Facebook, using your phone during a date
  • Android users judge potential partners for using an iPhone, and vice versa
  • Bars are the most “successful” flirting locations, followed by laundromats and gyms
  • People who talk to their Uber drivers about their love lives are three times more likely to have sex

The takeaway? While technology and social conventions change, people still want the same thing they always have: A genuine connection with another person.

The survey also found that most singles don’t think dating advice is useful, so take it all with a grain of salt.
