BOULDER -- Residents of the 426 homes evacuated amid a wildfire in Boulder County were allowed to return home. Officials lifted the mandatory evacuation order Monday morning.

While residents were returning home, firefighters made progress on the 74-acre Sunshine Fire. Officials said the blaze was 100 percent contained as of 5:15 p.m. Monday. No structures have been reported damaged.

"You could see flames that looked like they were right here, three or 400 feet away from the house," said Fred Moore who lives in the Knollwood subdivision.   Moore evacuated early Sunday morning but was back home by Monday evening.

"It's the fifth time that we've had to pack up for fires.  The first time it's really scary," Moore said.

The Sunshine Fire burned near Sunshine Canyon. Firefighters used air resources through Sunday but didn't need the same aerial activity on Monday.

The Boulder County Office of Emergency Management says crews will work to mop up hotspots overnight into Tuesday, and that mop-up operations will continue Tuesday.

Officials said the blaze may be human-caused and that hikers and transient campers frequent the area where it erupted.

Firefighters are comparing conditions to early June, when the state typically sees large wildfires.
