Summer paving work begins this week in downtown Denver

Posted

DENVER – It’s been nearly 15 years since Denver did any major paving work downtown and this week, public works crews will start on a two-year project to tackle that much-needed road work.

Starting May 1 and extending through the end of August, crews will be resurfacing about 100 blocks of downtown streets.

Crews plan to tackle several blocks at a time and the work will happen in two stages: First, a crew will remove the existing asphalt in a process called milling. Then, they’ll add new pavement to the road surface. In all, the process should take a couple days per block, weather permitting.

Work will take place between the hours of 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The city says work has been scheduled so that it won’t affect Rockies games or other special events downtown.

The map below shows which streets are scheduled for work this year and which will see resurfacing work next year:

Ahead of paving work, crews also will be installing and repairing ADA-compliant curb ramps at intersections that need them.
