DENVER — A portion of Interstate 70 will close this weekend so construction crews can demolish a part of the old Colorado Boulevard bridge and continue construction of the lower section.

This is part of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Central 70 Project.

Drivers should expect two closures starting Friday:
· A full weekend closure of I-70 from Steele/Vasquez to I-270 (beginning at 10 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday)
· A permanent closure of the westbound I-70 off-ramp to Steele/Vasquez (beginning as early as Friday)

Due to this, traffic will shift slightly west for motorists who are traveling southbound on Colorado Boulevard at I-70.

Motorists traveling westbound on I-70 will be detoured north onto I-270 to I-76 west and can continue south onto I-25 to I-70. Those traveling east will be detoured north to I-25 to I-76 east and can continue south on I-270 to I-70, CDOT said.

The Central 70 Project is reconstructing a 10-mile stretch of I-70, adding an express lane in each direction, removing the 56-year-old viaduct and lowering the interstate between Brighton and Colorado Boulevards. Click here to learn more about the Central 70 Project.
