STERLING, Colo. — A Sterling postal delivery man was arrested following an investigation which uncovered a staggering amount of undelivered mail.
Tayson Adam Hidalgo, 22, is facing federal charges after 26,000 pieces of mail failed to get delivered to residents of Sterling and Fort Morgan.
The indictment alleges Hidalgo destroyed and opened thousands of pieces of mail he was supposed to deliver to customers between Oct. 3, 2014, to April 21, 2016.
It’s not clear where investigators discovered the stash of letters and packages, but the sheer amount has prompted Sterling city officials to hold a town hall meeting to discuss the matter with the public.
The meeting is scheduled for Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. at Sterling Middle School. Officials will brief the public about the investigation and when the seized mail will be returned.
The former postal worker was indicted by a grand jury and appeared in court Thursday. Hidalgo is facing a federal charge of delay or destruction of mail. He has been released on bond.
