As Monday's snow storm continues to move east, it has forced multiple highways on Colorado's eastern plains to close, including Interstate 70 from Limon to the Kansas state line.
The Colorado Department of Transportation said around 11:30 a.m. that I-70 was closed just eastbound from Limon to the state line, but around 1 p.m., that was extended to include all westbound lanes as well. Around 1:30 p.m., the eastbound lanes were extended to Aurora. It reopened at approximately 10:30 p.m.
But I-70 closed again Tuesday morning, this time westbound between the Kansas border and exit 438 for Rose Avenue (Burlington) at approximately 8:21 a.m. due to a crash involving jackknifed semi-trucks. It reopened just after 10 a.m.
CDOT said southbound U.S. 385 is closed between U.S. 36 and Cheyenne Wells. Northbound U.S. 385 is closed between Cheyenne Wells and Burlington.
Colorado Highway 59 remains closed between Siebert and Kit Carson.
U.S. 36 is closed between County Road BB and County Road GG due to safety concerns as of 4 p.m. It reopened around 9:15 p.m.
Colorado Highway 94 was closed eastbound between County Road 17.3 and U.S. 40 due to safety concerns, as of 4 p.m. By approximately 12:24 a.m. Tuesday, it had reopened. Around 9:30 a.m., Colorado Highway 94 closed between U.S. 40 and Colorado Highway 71 (Punkin Center) for safety concerns.
High winds and poor visibility have been reported across the entire eastern plains. Winds are gusting up to around 45 mph, according to CDOT.
