RIFLE, Colo. – No one was injured when the pilot of a small plane ditched the aircraft on Interstate 70 near Rifle.

The pilot landed the single-engine Cessna 210 on the eastbound lanes of the interstate Monday evening. No vehicles were hit.

The Garfield County Sheriff's Office said the pilot was trying to land at the Rifle Airport but ran out of fuel. A flight plan was not released.

The Colorado Department of Transportation rerouted traffic around the plane while crews worked to tow the aircraft from the interstate. Both eastbound lanes reopened around 8 p.m.

The National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration are investigating.
