DENVER – Scott Von Lanken, the RTD security officer who was shot and killed near Union Station last week, was laid to rest Monday.

Investigators say Von Lanken was gunned down near the intersection of 16th and Wynkoop around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday. The suspect, Joshua Cummings, was arrested a short time later.

Von Lanken was a father of two, a pastor and a former police officer. His sister-in-law, Sandy Ritter, told Denver7 Von Lanken will be greatly missed.

“Scott was the most giving, kind-hearted man that I’ve probably ever known – next to maybe my husband,” Ritter said. “I don’t think there’s a person in this world ever who would be mad at Scott.”

The Denver Police Department’s motorcycle unit started a memorial to Von Lanken at the scene of his death and hundreds are expected to pay their respects at a funeral service in Loveland Monday.

The service is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. at Resurrection Fellowship, 6502 E. Cross Roads Blvd. in Loveland. The service is open to the public.

Cummings remains behind bars, where he’s being held without bond on a charge of first-degree murder. He’s expected in court early next month.
