FRICSO, Colo. (AP) — A backcountry skier has died on Quandary Peak in Colorado's Summit County.
Authorities did not immediately release the name of the victim.
The Summit Daily News reports that the incident occurred Sunday at about 13,400 feet (4,084 meters) elevation.
The Summit County Rescue Group says it was called about 11:20 a.m. Sunday and used a helicopter to reach the skier who was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the rescue group, he was skiing with a companion at the time.
It is the second death on Quandary Peak in the last six months. A 67-year-old man died after he suffered a heart attack about half a mile up the Quandary Peak Trail while hiking in late July.
