BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — A skier died after an accident at Eldora Mountain Ski Resort Thursday, according to the Boulder County Sheriff's Office.
First responders were dispatched just before 12 p.m. to the ski resort for a man in his 50s who sustained serious injuries while skiing. Witnesses said they saw the skier fall, slide down the Corona Run at a high rate of speed and hit a tree, officials said.
A medical helicopter was requested, but it was not able to land at the ski area or multiple neighboring areas because of the high winds. Given the steep terrain at the location of the accident, ski patrol transported the patient to medical personnel with AMR Ambulance and Nederland Fire Department.
The skier was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
The accident remains under investigation. The cause and manner of death will be determined by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office and the skier's name will be released once his identity is confirmed and next of kin has been notified.
