DENVER — Colorado Parks and Wildlife has launched a reservation-only camping program at six state parks.

The parks will soon start a pilot program to eliminate the required three-day reservation window for camping.

Cheyenne Mountain, Eleven Mile, Staunton, St. Vrain and Trinidad Lake Park will begin the program July 1. It will apply to all campsites in the parks. Reservation-only camping will start Sept. 15 at Ridgway State Park’s sites in the F and G loops.

Instead of gambling with the former first-come, first-served style of reservations, campers can claim a site 24/7 at www.cpwshop.com/home.page or by calling 1-800-244-5613.

Campers who stay in a reservation-only site without a reservation may face a citation.

This pilot program marks the first time camping is available at Staunton State Park. The park will have 25 backcountry campsites open to the public.
