DENVER — Signs in Washington Park are restricting the areas for team sports on the weekends.
Denver Parks and Recreation is in charge of making sure park goers are abiding by the rules at the area known as the "meadow."
The signs went up at the beginning of April. They will be in effect through the summer and into the end of September near the park area next to South Franklin Street, in between East Ohio Avenue and East Mississippi Avenue.
On Saturdays and Sundays, rangers put out signs on the north or south side of the field outlining where team sports are and are not allowed to be played. Rangers rotate which side is open and closed each weekend to protect the grass against overuse and sports cleats.
Denver Parks and Recreation said if an individual or group chooses to not abide by the park rules, they are at risk of receiving a written warning or citation. If matters are more serious, the police could get involved.
This park provision was first adopted in 2014.
