COLORADO SPRINGS — On Thursday, French Elementary school went into lockdown after a wanted domestic-violence suspect barricaded himself inside of a home in the 4000 block of Excursion Drive.

The suspect was identified as 50-year-old Andre Reed.

The area was in a neighborhood just to the west of the intersection of Powers Blvd and Grinnell Blvd.

According to Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Jason Garret, Reed had an active arrest warrant on domestic violence-related charges including Felony Menacing

Reed was alone in the home, according to Sgt. Garrett. Deputies used phone, text and loudspeakers while trying to communicate with him.

Nearby Widefield District 3's French Elementary went on a precautionary lockout status due to the incident. Parents were asked not to come to the school to pick up students.

At around 2:30 p.m., Reed was arrested after less-than-lethal gas munitions were deployed into the home and the shelter-in-place order was lifted. French Elementary School resumed to normal operations.

Reed has been transported to the El Paso County Jail.
