PARK COUNTY, Colo. — The Shawnee Peak Fire in Park County was about 55 acres and 50% contained on Sunday, officials said.
The lightning-sparked fire showed little activity on Saturday, according to the Pike National Forest, with creeping, smoldering, and single tree torching within the fire perimeter.
The 55-acre blaze has grown since it was first reported about a week ago due to the consumption of dry timber between the fire perimeter and constructed fire lines, officials said.
Firefighters will continue to monitor the perimeter Sunday, with a focus on the remaining uncontained fire line on the east and southeastern boundary.
No structures were at risk as of Sunday. The following trailheads were still closed: Payne Creek/Brookside McCurdy, Brookside AG, North Ben Tyler, Rock Creek, Long Gulch, and North Fork.
The fire was first reported at 3:15 p.m. Monday in a remote area of the Lost Creek Wilderness, roughly five or six miles southwest of the town of Bailey and east of Kenosha Pass.
