DENVER -- A Canadian man saw sexual assault charges filed against him earlier this year dropped by the Denver District Attorney’s Office Monday.
Colby James Messer, 30, was charged in April with six counts of sexual assault after a 27-year-old woman was allegedly raped at a Denver hotel last November.
Prosecutors had charged in initial hearings that Messer allegedly met the victim at a Denver bar and took her back to a hotel room he was sharing with friends, where she was raped.
But District Attorney’s Office spokeswoman Lynn Kimbrough said Monday the charges against Messer have been dropped after “new information developed in this case that led to a determination that those charges could no longer be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.”
Messer was arrested in March in Las Vegas after he returned to the U.S.
