Severe storms could slam metro area, plains during evening commute

Posted

DENVER — It's spring in Colorado, and it's definitely not uncommon to see afternoon storms and severe weather. Those in the Denver metro area may see storms rumble through during drive time.

According to the Denver7 First Alert weather team, there's a great chance for severe weather, including thunderstorms, hail, lightning and rain to roll through the eastern and southern parts of the Denver metro area.

Metro area residents can count on pea-sized hail and up to an inch of rain when the storms roll through, starting at about 3 p.m. The storms will last until about 6 p.m.

In the eastern plains, tornadoes are possible, although they will likely be weak if they do crop up. The main risk will be floods, as the storms in the plains will be slow-moving monsters that will drench the plains in rain.

Large hail will accompany those storms in the eastern plains, with hailstones being up to an inch in size.

A flood watch will be in effect for the eastern plains at 3 p.m., and it's even possible that watches and warnings will be issued within the Denver metro area.
