DENVER — If it felt a little sticky over the weekend, you weren't alone in those thoughts. The mercury crept close to 100 degrees in a record-breaker on Sunday
As the afternoon progressed, Colorado ended a 1995 record of 95 degrees on Sept. 3, setting the new 2017 record of 97 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, there are only a handful of days each September that creep past 90 degrees, and this weekends' heatwave was certainly above average.
Throughout the rest of the month, Colorado can expect temperatures on par with most other September months: about 75 degrees on average.
The Western Slope is slated to be warmer than average as the west copes with a heatwave, but that won't extend into the mountains, nor into the Front Range.
A wetter than average September could be a reality from the southern Denver metro area and down the Front Range corridor down to Trinidad, but the National Weather Service doesn't expect it to be extreme.
