DENVER – A Colorado native is one of two NASA astronauts who will embark on an emergency spacewalk this week.

Astronaut Jack Fischer and fellow NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson will embark on a spacewalk Tuesday morning to replace a data relay box that failed Saturday. The spacewalk is scheduled to begin at approximately 6 a.m. Mountain Time.

Fischer, who is a graduate of Centaurus High School in Lafayette and the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, has been on the International Space Station since April.

During his time on the ISS, Fischer has posted photos and videos on Twitter, documenting life in space and also showing the view of Earth from orbit.

Tuesday’s spacewalk will be the 10th for Whitson and the second for Fischer. On his first spacewalk last week, Fischer declared that it was "the biggest slice of awesome pie" he'd ever seen.
