SEDGWICK COUNTY, Colo. -- An elected sheriff in Colorado has been arrested on charges that will soon be released to the public, District Attorney's Office officials announced on Tuesday.
Officials from the 13th Judicial District Attorney's Office confirmed Wednesday that a joint investigation between the District Attorney's Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation turned up enough evidence to arrest Sedgwick County Sheriff Tom Hanna.
Formal charges have yet to be filed, but officials say Hanna will be held at the Logan County Jail. One source with knowledge told Denver7's Marshall Zelinger that it's the source's understanding the case is related to sexual assault of an adult.
Prosecutors say a special prosecutor outside of the county likely will be appointed to handle the case.
More details are expected to be released following a rescheduled court hearing on Wednesday. Follow Denver7 for updates.
