UPDATE (Wednesday, Oct. 31, 3 p.m.) Search and rescue crews discovered the body of a woman while searching for a hiker who went missing Tuesday afternoon near the Fourth of July Trail.

BOULDER COUNTY, Colo. — The body of a missing woman whom search continues Wednesday morning for a possible missing hiker after two people heard somebody yelling while they explored the trail Tuesday afternoon.

On Tuesday, two people were exploring Arapahoe Pass Trail and Arapahoe Glacier Trail when they heard a female yelling. They could not tell if the female needed help or not.

They searched the area before reporting it to the Nederland Police Department around 4 p.m.

Members of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Rocky Mountain Rescue and Front Range Rescue Dogs responded to the area where the hikers had heard the female yelling. The search continued overnight, since authorities found signs that a female had been hiking in the area. Her car was found at the 4th of July Trailhead.

Carrie Haverfield with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said the rescue teams met up again at 7 a.m. Wednesday to resume searching.

The search is focused on the Fourth of July Mine area, she said. That area received about 10 inches of snow overnight, complicating the search.

Haverfield said the woman who they believe is missing is typically a day hiker and would not be equipped for the weather.

A couple who had gotten engaged on the same trail had to be rescued in late September after they got lost trying to return to the trailhead.

Anybody who was hiking around the 4th of July Trail Tuesday or Wednesday is encouraged to call the sheriff’s office at 303-441-4444 with any information that could help with the search.
