Those looking to take a scenic drive to the top of Mount Evans should get going, as the highway to the top is slated to close Oct. 5.
The Colorado Department of Transportation announced Monday that the highway will close at Echo Lake next week.
CDOT typically closes the top of the road after Labor Day, but since heavy spring snowfall and construction delayed State Highway 5's opening, the department decided to keep the roadway open an extra 27 days.
State Highway 5 is scheduled to reopen the Friday before Memorial Day weekend, weather permitting.
Information regarding the opening and closing of seasonal highways in Colorado is available on the cotrip.org website or by calling 511.
