GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo. – Former Colorado company Samsonite plans to buy out current Colorado company eBags.

The companies announced Friday that Samsonite will acquire Greenwood Village-based eBags for $105 million.

Ebags is the leading online retailer of luggage and other bags and Samsonite has long been one of the most recognizable names in the luggage industry.

“This is an exciting day for eBags and we are thrilled to be joining the Samsonite family,” said Mike Edwards, President and CEO of eBags. “Their considerable experience and well-established presence in the travel luggage industry, together with our digital capabilities and passion for travel, are a perfect match. We look forward to forging a strong partnership, and to ensuring that our customers are given the best service and a diverse and compelling product offering.”

The acquisition represents a homecoming of sorts for Samsonite, which was founded in Denver in 1910 and had its headquarters here until 2006. The company is currently based in Hong Kong.

The company expects the acquisition to be completed in the second quarter of 2017.
