DENVER – It was moving day Tuesday as the first residents of a new affordable housing development in Stapleton got the keys to their new homes.
The Spruce Townhomes development comprises 83 units that are priced to be accessible for people making up to 80 percent of the area’s median household income.
Most of the 2- and 3-bedroom townhouses are priced between $166,500 and $235,500.
Residents say it’s a relief to be able to find affordable housing in Denver’s red-hot, competitive housing market.
“This home was an answer to our prayer and it is such a wonderful place to raise our growing family,” Taylor Norvell said.
Coucilman Christopher Herndon, who represents District 8, was on hand as residents got their keys Tuesday and he praised the developers and other organizations that worked together to make the Spruce Townhomes a reality.
“I’m proud of the partners who continue to work together to deliver a variety of quality, affordable homes in Stapleton,” Herndon said. “These homes are a testament to the community’s commitment to make sure the neighborhood is accessible to buyers in a wide range of price points.”
According to developer Forest City, 18 percent of all homes sold in Stapleton in 2016 qualified as affordable.
