GREELEY, Colo. — Residents along a street in Greeley were allowed back to their homes around 10 p.m. Wednesday as police continued to work with a barricaded suspect.
At 2:39 p.m. Wednesday, officers with the Greeley Police Department responded to a report of a restraining order violation along the 2800 block of Aspen Avenue.
When they arrived to the scene, they found a male suspect who refused to leave the residence. Police said they learned there were four other people inside the home and the male, who was armed with a handgun, was holding them against their will.
The Greeley Police Department's SWAT team, as well as the Crisis Negotiations Unit, then responded to the home as well.
The negotiators started to talk with the male. The SWAT team and patrol officers were able to remove two small children from the upper story of the home. As negotiators continued to talk with him, he eventually released another person. Several hours later, the fourth person was able to run outside and was rescued, police said.
Greeley police said this was still an active scene as of 10:30 p.m.
Police said there is no threat to the community. Neighboring residents were asked to leave their homes for their safety Wednesday, but were allowed back in around 10 p.m.
