FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) — A blind wolf dog rescued in West Virginia is in recovery after undergoing emergency surgery while on her way to her new home in Colorado.

The Coloradoan reports the wolf dog named Skye was flown to Fort Collins, Colorado on Tuesday for her new home at the rescue facility W.O.L.F Sanctuary.

Staff at Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital evaluated Skye, finding a life-threatening hernia in her diaphragm.

Sanctuary staff says Skye underwent the 90-minute surgery Wednesday.

The Mercer County Animal Shelter took in Skye after she was found wandering West Virginia in June.

Officials say Skye had been chained to a tree and rarely fed for years before she was rescued.
