San Juan County authorities say remains found in wreckage along Highway 550 near Durango are presumed to be those of a woman who has been missing since June.
The Durango Herald reports that crews were extricating the wreckage Sunday and Monday. A forensic identification hasn't yet been made, but the body is believed to be that of 49-year-old Lyla Zamani, who had been headed toward Silverton.
The remains and crashed vehicle were discovered about 300 vertical feet down from the highway by a Durango man in search of a backcountry ski spot.
Zamani's mother says her daughter came from California to visit her in Dolores in June and hadn't heard from her since. She says she knows the remains are her daughter's.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
