DENVER — The Colorado Black Round Table will host a virtual discussion titled “Racial Crisis in America: What is the Next Move?” with Colorado community leaders Wednesday afternoon.

The conversation begins at 3:30 p.m.

John Bailey with Colorado Black Round Table (CBRT) said the group felt there was a need to have a conversation between the community and elected officials about the racial injustices in the country and what can be done as a community.

CBRT has invited elected officials and other leaders to join the discussion to, as CBRT described, “clarify the history of our struggle, police-community relations and everyone’s role including the Black communities, in the implementation of appropriate strategies for resolution.”

Bailey said some people categorize racial injustices as a “black problem,” but it’s an “American problem, a national problem.”

“This is really a conversation for all of us,” Bailey said. “We came here in different boats, but we are all in the same boat now.”

The only way to solve this is to figure out what the community cares about relative to its future, and how they are going to pursue that, he said.

“Is it going to be a continued racial experience separating not only races, but genders? Or is it going to be an inclusive society, which is what we have been talking about for a long time?” he said.

Multiple other groups are involved along with CBRT, including Denver Urban Spectrum, Colorado Black Chamber of Commerce, Colorado Black Leadership Coalition, Denver-Rocky Mountain Association of Black Psychology, Colorado Martin Luther King Birthday Commission and more.
