DENVER — The body of Adams County Deputy Jesse Jenson traveled from Weld County to the Horan McConaty funeral home in Thornton Monday afternoon.

The deputy was escorted by a dozen vehicles from the Adams County Sheriff’s Office and several family members.

Questions about what happened on the night his life ended remain. LaSalle Resident Elizabeth Ayala is still looking for answers.

“When one officer shoots another officer it makes you wonder if there’s more behind it than what we think,” said Ayala.

The 41-year-old deputy was shot and killed by a female LaSalle officernear 42nd Street and Highway 85 after she confronted the plain-clothed deputy at the conclusion of a high-speed pursuit of two vehicles that began Wednesday night in Platteville.

Ayala lives across the street from the LaSalle Police station. She said she knows the officer who pulled the trigger.

“We know who she is,” she said. “All I can tell you, in general, is that she is kind. All the officers are so friendly.”

A family member of Deputy Jenson’s family spoke to Denver7 by Facebook. She didn’t want to be identified, but said, ”He was doing the right thing, still being a cop that night. He always did the right thing. He spent his life, his career trying to keep us safe.”

Ayala said it’s hard to speculate on what happened until the facts come out.

“I think Lasalle police did what they are supposed to do. What they always do,” she said. “Until we know the real story there’s nothing we can do.”
