FORT COLLINS, Colo. — A weeks-old puppy from Washington that was given just months to live has arrived in Colorado to undergo surgery that could save his life.

Logan, a 12-week-old German Shepherd from Ferndale, Washington, arrived at Colorado State University in Fort Collins on Wednesday.

Logan has been diagnosed with pulmonic valve dysplasia, a disorder in which the main heart valve doesn’t close properly, preventing proper oxygenation of his blood, according to KOMO in Seattle. A veterinarian said Logan has anywhere from one month to a year left to live.

Logan’s story got the attention of Dr. Brian Scansen at Colorado State University Veterinary Teaching Hospital, who said he might be able to perform surgery and repair the puppy’s heart.

Rescued Hearts Northwest, which took Logan into its care, raised the money to fly Logan to Colorado. He underwent an evaluation on Wednesday and is scheduled to undergo surgery on Thursday.

Rescued Hearts Northwest also has created a “bucket list” for Logan, with goals such as getting 100 hugs and going to the beach.

You can follow Logan’s story on the Rescued Hearts Northwest Facebook page here.
