GEORGETOWN, Colo. – Wintry conditions and a power outage were leading to lengthy delays on I-70 through the mountains Monday morning.
The Colorado Department of Transportation closed the highway at Georgetown at about 2:30 a.m. due to a power outage at the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnels. The closure lasted several hours and led to a long line of cars parked on the roadway.
Traffic was moving through the tunnels again by 8 a.m.
Traffic also was stopped at Vail as falling snow created treacherous driving conditions. That section of highway was reopened around 7 a.m.
