DENVER – Gov. Jared Polis on Thursday ordered the U.S. and Colorado flags to be lowered to half-staff on Monday in honor of Gunnery Sgt. Scott A. Koppenhafer, a Colorado native who died in Iraq earlier this month.
Funeral services for Koppenhafer, of Mancos, will also be held Monday.
Koppenhafer was killed Aug. 10 after he was wounded by enemy small-arms fire in combat, according to the Pentagon.
Koppenhafer was on an Iraqi Security Force mission in the Ninewah province of Iraq, officials said. He was assigned to the 2nd Marine Raider Battalion, Marine Forces Special Operations Command, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
