GREELEY, Colo. — A woman told police she burned some of her husband’s items after a fight, activating a fire alarm at a Greeley apartment complex.

On Tuesday around 10:45 p.m., the Greeley Fire Department and Greeley Police Department responded to an automatic fire alarm at the Meeker Commons Apartments complex at 505 9th Avenue. Crews found that a sprinkler had been activated in one apartment, and successfully extinguished the fire. It did not damage any other apartments.

Personnel with the fire department told police that the fire originated from a specific apartment and the resident was at the scene. Officers talked with the woman, who was later identified as Mindilynn Elizabeth Zekan, 39.

The investigation indicated that Zekan was upset about an argument with her husband and after he left the apartment, she started setting some of his items on fire.

Zekan was placed in custody and booked at the Weld County Jail on a first-degree arson charge.

Authorities have not been able to determine the cost of the damage.
