GOLDEN, Colo. – A police officer at Red Rocks Community College was arrested Sunday in connection with a child pornography investigation while he was preparing to get on a flight to leave the country, police said Tuesday.
David Delaney, 28, was arrested on one count of sexual exploitation of a child, a class 4 felony, on Sunday after officer obtained a warrant for his arrest stemming from the pornography investigation.
According to Golden police, the investigation into Delaney started on July 3, when another law enforcement agency alerted them to “a possible child pornography case” in which Delaney was the primary suspect.
Delaney was placed on administrative leave by Red Rocks Community College once it was notified of the investigation, Golden police spokesman Capt. Joe Harvey said in a news release. The college has campuses in Lakewood and Arvada.
Harvey said police learned Delaney was planning to flee the country to Taiwan, but they obtained the warrant on the sexual exploitation of a child charge, and police arrested Delaney before he was able to board his plane.
Delaney was booked into the Jefferson County jail, but posted a $60,000 cash/surety bond Tuesday morning and will be released once he is outfitted with a GPS tracking device.
A judge has also ordered Golden police to keep Delaney’s passport in their custody and that Delaney not be allowed internet access or to travel out of state without the court’s permission.
Harvey said the investigation was active and ongoing. Police ask anyone with more information about Delaney to call their tip line at 303-384-8034 or email crimetips@cityofgolden.net.
