BRIGHTON, Colo. – A driver hauling manure rolled his semi-truck Monday and spilled his cargo after narrowly avoiding hitting a police officer on the side of Interstate 76.

Brighton police said an officer was responding to a crash in which a pickup truck hit the cable barrier in the median around 7:15 a.m. Nobody was hurt in that crash.

About an hour later, the manure-hauling semi drove by the area and narrowly missed hitting the officer, who was still on the scene, police said. The near-miss caused the driver to lose control of the semi, which rolled over onto its side, spilling manure onto the freeway.

It wasn’t clear if the truck driver would be cited for the crash.

The eastbound lanes of I-76 were closed due to the crash. Police weren’t sure how long the closure would last. Traffic was being diverted at 136th Avenue in the meantime.
