Two women carjacked a man at gunpoint and crashed the car near Interstate 25 and West 84th Avenue, police said.

The women confronted the man near East 60th Avenue and Holly Street at about 2:30 a.m. and demanded he give them his 2006 Nissan Pathfinder, Commerce City Police said.

Officers found the vehicle near the 6000 block of Interstate 25 and tried to stop it.

Police chased the SUV to West 84th Avenue and Conifer Drive in Thornton, where the driver crashed into another vehicle, police said.

The driver of the other vehicle was treated for minor injuries and released from a local hospital.

The two women refused to get out of the car, according to CCPD. Because they were believed to be armed with a handgun, SWAT officers were deployed.

The women were taken into custody about an hour after the crash.

The 84th Ave. bridge over I-25 was closed for several hours and reopened just before 8 a.m.
